Sometimes, we get unpleasant results not because the task was difficult but because we made it harder than needed. In trying to prove ourselves, we overthink, overanalyze, and overdo, losing sight of the most important requirements.

This framework helps me pause and ask, “Am I busy for the sake of being busy, or am I being productive?” Once I find my answer, I know in which direction to channel my energy. This helps me say no to distractions disguised as priorities.

Balancing big and small tasks may feel like juggling a watermelon and a bunch of grapes. You don’t want to drop any, but you can’t hold them the same way. Big tasks demand deep focus, while small tasks require quick bursts of energy. It’s easy to get lured into one and neglect the other, but the key is to create a system that works for both.

Why do we do this? Why do we often ignore smaller tasks in favor of tackling the big ones? Is it the allure of a big win? The illusion of progress? Priority? I genuinely need an answer.

For me, gaining momentum this year will be about showing up every day, whether or not I feel ready. I’ve set a goal to write a piece every day until December 31, 2025.
