Olabayo J. Awodirepo

Founder, Witty Writers’ World | French Linguist | Educator | Researcher in Language, Culture & Translation | Published Poet | Community Builder

BIO

I am currently a PhD candidate in French Linguistics at the University of Alabama and a Graduate Instructor of Records with interests in sociolinguistics, language attitudes and ideologies, heritage language education, French linguistics, Louisiana French, and translation studies. My research explores how language attitudes, identity, and linguistic ideologies shape heritage language learning, maintenance, and revitalization, particularly within French-speaking communities.

Over the years, I have taught French at both secondary and university levels in Nigeria and the United States, helping students develop linguistic proficiency while cultivating intercultural competence.

Beyond teaching, I have contributed to research in French and Creole linguistics, presented at national and international conferences, and collaborated on projects involving phonological variation, translation, and African literature.

Leadership has been a significant part of my journey. I have had the privilege of serving as President of the African Students Association at the University of Alabama, Conference Chair of the University of Alabama Languages Conference, and Graduate Student Representative for my department. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to building inclusive communities, mentoring others, and creating opportunities for meaningful collaboration.

Outside academia, I am a published poet and the founder of Witty Writers’ World, a platform that encourages creativity, storytelling, and literary expression. I enjoy exploring the connection between scholarship and creativity, believing that language is not only a subject of study but also a powerful tool for connection, advocacy, and social change.

My long-term interests include higher education, language policy, translation, intercultural communication, and academic leadership. I am always open to connecting with educators, researchers, students, creatives and professionals who are passionate about languages, culture, and global engagement.
